Chris Shilling is Professor of Sociology at the University of Portsmouth/UK. His work over the last fifteen years has been influential in establishing the parameters of the new field of 'body studies' and his major monographs include The Body in Culture, Technology & Society (Sage Press, 2005), The Body and Social Theory, 2nd edition (Sage Press, 2003), The Sociological Ambition (with P.A. Mellor, Sage Press, 2001), and Re-forming the Body (with P.A. Mellor, Sage Press, 1997).
