Over 25 years of experience in diagnosis, treatment and research of Eating Disorders for adolescents and adults. Founder and leader of the Eating Disorders Unit at the Dept. of Paediatrics, Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck (1984-2002); presently at the Dept. of Psychological Medicine & Psychotherapy, Innsbruck Medical University. Private Practice "Zentrum für Essstörungen", Innsbruck. Principal investigator in several research projects on Eating Disorders. Founder & president of the Austrian Network Eating Disorders, Innsbruck (since 1990), since 2000 President of the Austrian Society on Eating Disorders (ASED / ÖGES). Founding member of the European Council on Eating Disorders (ECED) and member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, USA (EDRS); member of the editorial board of "European Eating Disorders Review" & "Eating & Weight Disorders". Chairman and convenor of the annual International Congresses on Eating Disorders in Austria (in 2005, 13th meeting). Initiator & head of the approbated post-graduate training "Treatment of Eating Disorders" since 2000 (first German language training course on eating disorders). Convenor & chairman of the 9th General Meeting of the European Council on Eating Disorders (ECED) 2005, Innsbruck / Austria.

Andreas Karwautz, M.D., University Professor, specialist in psychiatry and neurology and child and adolescent neuropsychiatry, Professor of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry at the Medical University of Vienna, Vienna General Hospital; Psychotherapist (GAI / Guided Affective Imagery); head of the Outpatient Clinic for Children and Adolescents with Eating Disorders in the University Hospital of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry, Vienna General Hospital.

Areas of activity: Head of the special Outpatient Clinic for eating disorders, regular lectures and seminars on Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the eating disorders at Vienna Medical University. Head of the European research-project concerning risk factors for eating disorders and obesity and head of ÖNB research-project (granted by Founds of the Austrian National Bank) in eating disorders of persons with type-1 diabetes and internal disorders.
